HB1239's intention is to simply hold librarians accountable to institute some safeguards to protect children from this obscene material. Nothing on the exterior of the books indicates this pornographic content is contained within. In fact, most of these books appear on library and school reading lists and many have received awards from and are promoted by various professional organizations.

Parents have gone through the time-consuming process of filling "content challenges", but they have almost entirely been denied after months of navigating through the process with each individual book, only to be denied any action by the library with a form letter containing language from the American Library Association's (ALA) "Intellectual Freedom Committee" which suggests that they need to "reframe this issue away from the idea that these are inappropriate for minors and promote them as diverse materials and programming that are about inclusion, fairness, and the protection of everybody's right to see themselves and their families reflected in the books in the public library."

Talk about graphic. I have no idea why anyone would think it is a problem to have these books in a separate section in the library.
