As I write this, I can hear the sounds of neighborhood children laughing and playing outside. This idyllic image of innocence is harshly contrasted in my mind by what I experienced recently at the Pride Festival. Sioux Falls Pride promoted its event as “family-friendly” and “for all ages.” However, I’m unable to reconcile what I witnessed as anything other than overtly harmful to children and subversive to families.
The “family-friendly” entertainment consisted of two drag queen burlesque shows and a drag queen story time. The burlesque lived up to its name: a parade of transvestite men grotesquely ridiculing women. The only thing more shocking than this decadent spectacle was the many little kids present who were encouraged to and applauded when they offered dollar bills to the drag queens.
Why is this acceptable? Would these same adults be cheering on young children who offered cash tips to scantily clad women parading around their families?
Sandwiched in between the two burlesque shows was a drag queen reading LGBTQ-affirming picture books. One obvious goal of these events is to desensitize young children to sexually inappropriate content. In other words, they’re grooming our kids. The second goal is to introduce kids and their naïve parents to queer ideology. The purpose of queer ideology is to dismantle heterosexuality, binary sex, monogamy, traditional marriage, the nuclear family, and any other remnant of a traditional functional society related to our human sexuality.
It’s clear that the organizers of the Pride Festival aren’t simply interested in celebrating their queer culture, or in encouraging us to affirm it. They want a cultural revolution. The Transformation Project’s Pride Parade float stated, “This is the gender revolution,” and commanded those in attendance to “Step Up” and “Speak Out.”
The vendor area was filled with booths from organizations like Planned Parenthood and Heartland Kink. Are these family-friendly organizations? Was the material they were promoting appropriate for kids? How about the frequent announcements for attendees to grab their free condoms and Plan B abortive kits?
The most pertinent question in my mind is: where is the Church in the midst of our community’s moral decay? Why aren’t they protecting our kids and promoting traditional marriage as the building block of a stable society? The only churches present at Pride Festival were the Shepherd’s Table, Spirit of Peace UCC, and First Congregational churches–ironically located nearby the Friends of the Satanic Temple booth. All of them claimed they were there to advocate for compassion.
Is it compassionate to promote the pagan practices of child sacrifice, sexual exploitation, and debauchery? These LGBTQ-affirming churches talk a lot about love, but the Bible says that “love is not proud. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth” (1 Cor. 13:4-6 [NIV]). Does Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection not free us from being enslaved to all sin: including the LGBTQ ones?
Our children need to be protected from this moral degradation. While most of us (including professing Christians who should know better) remain tacitly amenable to this deplorable agenda, our kids are being conscripted into the LGBTQ revolutionary army.
But their innocence won’t be the only casualty. They will be the victims of sterility, genital mutilation, STIs, mental and spiritual anguish, and a host of other ailments. It’s time we stopped celebrating and affirming these regressive pagan practices and start boldly illuminating them for what they truly are: a threat to our children, our families, and our communities.
